Farewell message

Farewell message from Minister KZ.

"All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another."
Well, Anatole France, the 19th century French poet, journalist, novelist and Nobel laureate in literature might have been thinking of something more dramatic than a minor cabinet shuffle when he penned that line.
But, a week after vacating my 8th floor corner office in the DEP Building, I must say this former Minister is still experiencing the odd moment of melancholy.
That's not to say I'm not honoured and delighted to have been chosen by the Prime Minister to enter a new life at the Ministry of ....
But, with this note I'm writing to bid farewell to the hundreds of foreign service professionals, at headquarters and at our missions across the region and around the world who welcomed and supported a ministerial rookie for two wonderful years.
I won't attempt to list names for fear of overlooking someone, but you know who you are; I'll always treasure our time together and our shared adventures.
One of the best prospects for my new adventure as Minister of ... is that there will still be a dimension of diplomacy at this Ministry, particularly on the climate change file. I look forward to our paths crossing soon and often.
One final thought and a request: please welcome the new Minister and provide her the same support and affection offered so generously to me.
Great success in 2011. And, in the spirit of the pillars of our country's policy for the region, here's to good governance, security and prosperity across our hemisphere.
Sincerely,

KZ
Minister
